Living Battles 1 - The Soldiers

Tales from soldiers from the civil war in Mozambique. Part 1. Becoming a soldier.

Directed by Karen Boswall
Produced by Sol De Carvalho
Promarte Lda, Mozambique.

When Mozambique’s 16 year long civil war ended in October 1992 hundreds of thousands of soldiers gave up their arms and were asked to end their life of fighting and begin a new life. This film gives some of those men the opportunity to tell their story – sometimes funny, sometimes tragic, often both, they tell of how they became a soldier, how they lived as a soldier, and how they adapted to civilian life once the war ended. With a musical score by Mozambique’s lyrical singer and composer Roberto Chitsondzo, this film is a tender and human portrait of war from a soldiers perspective.
