RESEARCH
Karen retrained as an academic audiovisual researcher when she returned to the UK. Her audio-visual ethnomusicological research in Syria formed part of her masters dissertation which she completed as SOAS in 2015. Between her masters and her PhD Karen conducted research into diversity and inclusion in access to music education for the BAME population of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. She also spent some time in Nepal conducting collaborative ethnmusicological research into women and music. For her doctoral research she returned to Mozambique to use similar collaborative methodologies in her audio-visual ethnomusicological research into women and music. Below are some short video testimonials, video portraits and clips of participatory singing shot in Jordan between September 2013 and September 2014, in Nepal in 2015 and in Mozambique between 2016 and 2018.
